Punk Rock Bass

One of the distinguishing characteristics of punk rock is the focus on passionate amateurism over studied virtuosity, but virtuosity will always show up in music, and in punk rock the bad rep of guitar shredding has resulted in a wave of insanely talented bass players with crazy chops. Often the partial or total lack of lead guitar will make bass the default melodic instrument. Thinking of Brian Ritchie (Violent Femmes), Mike Watt (The Minutemen), Dave Blood (Dead Milkmen), and Matt Freeman (Rancid) just off the top of my head, but there are many more.
